The Sydney Opera House is hosting the 'Peace and Wellbeing concert' organised by a Chinese Buddhist organisation which features Tibetan Buddhist monks chanting as well.
This seems very much to be a case of cultural and religious appropriation of Tibetan Buddhism—which is not a part of Chinese Buddhism in any form. Tibet was an independent country that has been annexed and occupied by China since 1950.
In addition, Tibetan culture, language and Buddhism are unique and not at all Chinese.
Freedom House currently ranks Tibet as one of the least free country in the world - due to the oppression of the Chinese Government.
Currently, China is oppressing Tibetan people and systematically denying their rights to free speech, to protest, to speak Tibetan language, live out Tibetan culture and to practise Tibetan Buddhism.
China is also systematically removing young monks from monasteries and enrolling them in colonial boarding schools along with other Tibetan children who too are removed from their families, culture, language and Buddhism.
Write to the Opera House to reconsider allowing such propaganda events appropriating culture and religion of the Tibetan people.
